DAY 1 (Nelson)

0km – Arrival

How do you describe Nelson? Nestled on the shores of Kootenay Lake, the artsy capital of the Kootenays radiates energy, culture and heritage. Enjoy a stroll along historic Baker Street with its street front cafes and boutique shops, or soak up some sun at Lakeside Park’s sandy beach. We’ll set you up with your bikes in the afternoon and then enjoy a group dinner and prepare for the adventure ahead!

Accommodation: Prestige Lakeside Resort (or similar)

DAY 2 (Nelson to Kaslo)

70km, 641m elevation gain

We’ll pedal out of Nelson via BOB (the Big Orange Bridge), and follow the relatively flat winding waterfront road to the small settlement of Balfour, terminal for the world’s longest free ferry. Our route bends north, where a series of small hills provide stunning views of fjord-like Kootenay Lake. An optional stop at Ainsworth Hot Springs offers a soothing dip before the final leg to the charming small town of Kaslo.

Accommodation: Kaslo Hotel (or similar)

DAY 3 (Kaslo to Meadow Creek Return Trip)

79km, 794m elevation gain

We’ll pedal north from Kaslo along one of the least travelled roads in BC that will make you feel like you’ve entered into the wilds of Patagonia. At the north end of Kootenay Lake we’ll enjoy a flat ride to Meadow Creek and enjoy views of remote glaciers. We’ll stop for lunch on the shores of Kootenay Lake, then cycle back to Kaslo with tremendous views once again. You’ll be back in time to explore more of Kaslo and the small town’s cultural and culinary delights. For those keen to avoid the short but steep hill climb in Kaslo, you’re welcome to be dropped off at the top!

Accommodation: Kaslo Hotel (or similar)

DAY 4 (Kaslo to Slocan)

78km, 1007m elevation gain

A gradual uphill takes us deep into the mountains and past rushing rivers, forested hills and alpine lakes. Once we reach the summit of the quiet road we’ll enjoy lunch on the shores of quiet Fish Lake, followed by a cruisy downhill to the ridiculously scenic waterfront village of New Denver on scenic Slocan Lake. The views keep improving as we head south, passing the sleepy town of Silverton before climbing up a pass with jaw-dropping views of the lake below. What goes up must go down! The final leg is a speedy downhill to the quiet waterfront village of Slocan. The shuttle will transport you back to Nelson by early afternoon. For those seeking extra km’s, continue on through the spectacular Slocan Valley (where it’s flat!)
